Phil O'Regan
Phil O’Regan, our principal, is a Clonakilty native and with the exception of 18 months where she acted as Law Agent in Dublin for one of Irelands leading Financial Institutions, has spent her entire working life in West Cork.
Focussed and committed to the betterment of West Cork and its people, Phil has served as a Town Councillor for 14 years and Mayor of Clonakilty on three occasions and is proud to have played her part in a number of local initiatives including the campaign to preserve Clonakilty Post Office and the return to Clonakilty of the Town’s Famine Cross.
Having commenced her Legal Apprenticeship with the late Michael R. Boland and concluded her apprenticeship with Jim O’Keeffe, she was actively encouraged in the direction of Property Law and Practice by them and by the late William Kingston (qualified 1905) and by Mary F. Hegarty an incredibly special Law Clerk who together had built up an extraordinary expertise over an amazing 196 practice years. Each of them was fulsome in imparting their individual decades of personal experience and knowledge to her. These four influential and knowledgeable people sparked a life long career interest in all aspects of Conveyancing Law and Practice, Property Law, Wills, Probate and Estate Administration including Taxation Law. All of these areas of Law of necessity require a sound working knowledge of Retirement Tax Reliefs, Capital Taxes, Pensions, Enduring Powers of Attorney and also impact substantially now with the National Fair Deal Nursing Home Scheme which are issues of great significance for both our ageing and special needs community.
Holding a BCL Degree from UCD, Phil qualified as a Solicitor in 1974 and with a wish to improve and develop in her chosen fields of legal interest, she has continued her education throughout her career, also graduating with a Certificate in Procurement Law and Practice. Where Phil has seen the need to address issues, she has campaigned for change including amendment of parts of the 2009 Conveyancing and Law Reform Act.
Born into a local family business to which she is integral and committed, her legal practice is based wholly on honesty, integrity and the clear wish that her clients have full understanding of the legal system and the impact it may have on their individual situations. The long and successful career she has enjoyed, as evidenced by so many loyal clients who continue to seek her advice and assistance, is testament to those core values.
